Are you going for massage for the very first time? It is normal for your mind to be bugged with so many questions. In this write-up, we will look at some of the most probable questions you may be asking before the massage therapy begins and try to provide answers to these questions. While this write-up may not cover all the possible questions, we will cover as many as space permits.
What should I expect?
You will most likely be expected to complete a health form before the process starts. You will be taken through a questioning time to decipher if you are qualified for the massage or not. During the questioning period, you will also be asked about the particular area on which you want the massage to focus. Before the massage therapy starts, the therapist may carry out certain evaluations and tests to detect any hidden health condition.
Must I be completely undressed?
You are only compelled to undress as far as you are comfortable. You may however get completely undressed if you are going for a full body massage. You may leave your underwear on during the therapy. You may not get the optimal benefits of massaging if you are nervous about getting undressed. The therapist can give you space and privacy to undress and lie down on the table before coming in to undertake the massage process.
Do I have to cover my body with towel or sheet?
The law that prevails in that state or locality may make it compulsory for you to cover your body with towel or sheet after getting undressed. You may also get draped if it will not hinder the massage therapy in any way. The therapist only needs to uncover parts of your body on which to apply the therapy. However, breasts and genitals will be covered.
What should I do while the therapy is ongoing?
As much as possible, maintain a comfortable stance during the massage process. The therapist may move your body or ask you to move by yourself to assume a different position if that becomes necessary. If you are not comfortable with any position, you can change it to suit you. You are free to talk during the process if you so desire. You can either close or open your eyes too, whichever is more convenient for you. Never shy from asking questions during the process.
How long will the therapy take?
You will not require more than about one hour for full-body massage. If you only need a partial massage, it should not take more than 30 minutes. To ensure optimal relaxation and improve the effect of the massaging on you, the therapist may take between 60 and 90 minutes to complete the process. Make sure you take some time to relax before the therapy starts.
Is massage therapy hurtful?
The type of massage you desire and the depth of the stroke applied by the therapist will determine if the therapy is accompanied with some pains. A relaxing massage done with light strokes will not probe too deeply into your muscles, and it should, therefore, not be hurtful. Be that as it may, the hurt should be mild and bearable.
